Import VAT, Duties & Customs (DDU) Policy

IntroOverview

CHAAMO facilitates international shipments between buyers and sellers on a Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) basis. This means that import VAT, customs duties, brokerage fees, clearance charges, or any other taxes imposed by the destination country are not included in the purchase price and are solely the buyer's responsibility.

CHAAMO does not act as the importer of record and does not collect, remit, or prepay any customs or import charges on behalf of users.

1Buyer Responsibility for Import Fees

By purchasing an item for international delivery, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • Import VAT, customs duties, courier brokerage fees, and handling charges may apply upon arrival.
  • These fees must be paid by the buyer directly to customs or the courier before delivery can be completed.
  • Delivery may be delayed until these charges are settled.

If the buyer refuses to pay required import taxes or fees:

  • The shipment may be returned to the seller, held, or destroyed by customs.
  • CHAAMO is not responsible for any resulting delays, losses, penalties, or charges.
  • No refunds will be issued for items destroyed or returned due to unpaid import fees.

It is the buyer's responsibility to confirm local customs rules and import thresholds before making a purchase.

2Seller Responsibility for Customs Declarations

Sellers must ensure that all customs information is accurate, including:

  • Item description
  • Declared value
  • Country of origin
  • HS code (where applicable)

Incorrect, incomplete, or misleading declarations can result in delays, return or seizure by customs, and additional fees charged to the buyer or seller.

CHAAMO accepts no liability for incorrect or fraudulent customs declarations made by sellers.

3CHAAMO's Role

CHAAMO provides:

  • A platform for generating shipping labels through approved couriers
  • Basic tracking information
  • Assistance in communicating with carriers regarding lost or damaged shipments

CHAAMO does not:

  • Act as the importer or exporter of record
  • Pay import VAT, customs duties, or clearance fees
  • Reimburse users for customs charges, penalties, or taxes
  • Provide tax, customs, or regulatory advice

All shipments arranged through CHAAMO are processed strictly on a DDU basis.

4EU Purchases and IOSS

CHAAMO is not registered under the Import One Stop Shop (IOSS) system. Therefore:

  • Import VAT may still be charged by EU customs on shipments under €150.
  • Buyers may be required to pay VAT and handling fees directly to the courier before delivery.

5Returns Related to Customs Issues

If a shipment is returned due to non-payment of customs fees, incorrect or misleading customs declarations, or failure to comply with local import regulations, CHAAMO is not responsible for refunding the buyer or seller.

Return shipping costs, additional fees, and losses are the responsibility of the party whose actions caused the return.

6No Liability

CHAAMO is not liable for:

  • Delays caused by customs inspection
  • Fees charged by customs authorities or couriers
  • Shipments seized, destroyed, or returned due to unpaid import taxes
  • Losses arising from inaccurate customs declarations by users
  • Decisions made by customs authorities in any jurisdiction

Customs processes are outside CHAAMO's control.
